2009 Theme: Roman Through Australia |

The 'Roman Through Australia' theme focuses on the confluence between the Roman era and our contemporary and evolving world. The hegemonic empire dominates the history of material culture, social structure and has a perpetual resonance beneath the sophistication of the 21st century. Undiminished by time and place, the project will explore the enduring legacies in Australia which have origins from the ancient and powerful Roman civilisation. The selected work for the 2009 With One Work project is the splendid Roman mosaic 'Le Marriage d'Admete' which dates from the Second Half of the II Century and is 5.94 x 8.80m. This extraordinary glass tile mosaic was discovered in the 1800’s and is situated on the floor within the Musee Des Beaux Arts Nimes, France (pictured left).
